The International Conference on Educational Innovation (CIIE, for its initials in Spanish), organized by “Tecnologico de Monterrey”, is inspired on the Code used by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and on the Code of Ethics of “Comunicar” Magazine, and is addressed to the Scientific Committee, as well as to reviewers and authors.
Commitments of the Scientific Committee
- Ethical process. The Scientific Committee shall determine: i) the policies on authorship and contributions for lectures; ii) the processes for addressing complaints and appeals; iii) the policies for participation upon conflict of interest; iv) the ethical supervision processes, as well as intellectual property and open access to publications; and v) the options the CIIE (International Congress of Educational Innovation) has in regards to discussions and amendments after publishing.
- Academic and scientific formation. The Scientific Committee, with the support of the Group for Research and Innovation in Education, summons and selects the experts who will partake as voluntary examiners of the received contributions. These experts come from different institutions and countries, they have postgraduate degrees, as well as broad experience in the areas of innovation and education.
- Committee / contact information. The Scientific Committee will publish on the CIIE website, the complete list of names and affiliation of the academic personnel who shall be part of the Scientific Committee and of the Examiners, such list shall include a complete address.
- Peer review. Every contribution received shall undergo two assessments, which will determine if the work is accepted; in the event of a discrepancy, a third examiner shall participate in order to reach a final decision.
- Evaluation criteria. The Scientific Committee shall determine the evaluation criteria and the rubrics with which the examiners shall issue a critical and expert appreciation of the work submitted, with the least possible bias.
- Conflict of interest. The Scientific Committee commits itself to not privilege the acceptance of works which have not been timely reviewed by the examiners, in accordance to the summon.
- Open access outreach. The Scientific Committee is obliged to inform the authors, that their work shall be published with open access, through the proceedings of the CIIE. The open access to such proceedings shall be available at the CIIE website and at the institutional repository of “Tecnologico de Monterrey”
- Calendar and deadlines compliance. The Scientific Committee, together with the Organizing Committee for the CIIE, are both responsible for complying with the revision deadlines and for communicating to the authors which works were accepted; the latter to ensure their participation at the CIIE and the publication of the proceedings.
- Web site. The Scientific Committee, together with the Organizing Committee for the CIIE, are both responsible for the CIIE web site, including all text therein contained, so that all ethical and professional standards are guaranteed. All information therein contained shall be addressed to inform on the truthfulness of the CIIE and the guidelines for participation. Furthermore, it shall set forth the characteristics for the summoned lectures, and the authorship criteria for publication in case of it being accepted by the Scientific Committee. The participation fees for the CIIE shall be clearly set forth in an easily accessible place for potential authors, before they submit their manuscripts for revision; or such fees shall be explained to the authors before they begin to prepare their manuscripts fir submittal.
Commitments of the Authors
- Originality and plagiarism. The authors of the manuscripts submitted to the CIIE, ensure their works are original, and do not contain parts of other authors nor fragments of previously published works by other authors. Furthermore, they confirm the truthfulness of the data, meaning, no alterations have been made to the empirical data in order to verify a hypothesis.
- Multiple and/or repetitive publications. The author shall not submit works which repeat the same results in more than one publication. The simultaneous submittal of the same contribution to multiple congresses or magazines is deemed as ethically incorrect and condemnable.
- List of sources. The author must always provide the correct list of sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
- Authorship. Regarding the authorship of the manuscript, the authors guarantee the inclusion of the people who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution on the conceptualization and planning of the work, as well as regarding the interpretation of the results and of its writing. Furthermore, all authors have been hierarchically organized based on their level of responsibility and contribution.
- Conflict of interest and outreach. All authors are obliged to explicitly state there is no conflict of interest that may have influenced the obtained results or the proposed interpretation of such. Authors must also indicate the existence of any funding on the part of any agency and/or project from which the research article arises. Likewise, they must express their conformity with its open access publication in the proceedings of the CIIE.
- Responsibility. All authors accept their responsibility on what has been written. Authors also commit to having performed a revision of the most current and relevant scientific literature on the analyzed subject, considering in an inclusive way the different streams of knowledge.
- Copyright and licenses. All lectures shall be published under a Creative Commons license. The license information shall be clearly described on the guidelines provided on the web site, and the license terms shall be included in all published lectures, both in HTML and PDF.
Commitments of the reviewers
- Scientific revision. Reviewers accept the commitment of performing a critical, honest, constructive and non-biased review, of the scientific and literary quality of the manuscript, according to their field of knowledge and abilities.
- Respect for deadlines. A reviewer who does not feel confident in relation to the subject to be reviewed, or who is not able to finish the evaluation within the deadline, shall immediately notify the Scientific Committee. In order to respect the deadlines, all reviewers commit to evaluate the works in the least time possible, this because the CIIE deadlines for publishing are already established.
- Confidentiality. Each assigned manuscript shall be deemed as confidential. Therefore, such texts must not be discussed with other people without the express consent of the Scientific Committee.
- Objectivity. Peer review shall be performed objectively. It is not considered appropriate to issue any personal judgment regarding the authors of the contributions. The reviewers are obliged to provide sufficient reasons for their assessments. The reviewers shall submit their assessment based on the rubrics established by the Organizing Committee. They are obliged to advise the Scientific Committee if a substantial part of the work has already been published or is under review for another publication.
- Conflict of interest and outreach. All confidential information, or information obtained during the peer review process shall be deemed as confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes. The reviewers shall only review manuscripts when no conflict of interest exists.
